Changes to Moving Expenses for Tax Year 2018

The tax law that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump on December 22, 2017 called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) made changes to moving expenses. Below is the UPDATED information.

Moving expenses for certain moves greater than 50 miles were deductible in the past. For tax years 2018 through 2025, moving expenses are no longer deductible. In addition, any amounts of moving expenses paid or reimbursed by an employer are now fully taxable.

An exception applies for an active duty member of the Armed Forces who moves because of a military order resulting in a permanent change of station.
